This isn't the greatest picture but it gives a good idea about how small he really is, this "Muffin". So, of course, this was the first almost newborn kitten I have ever cared for. I turned to the great www. for help. First thing I ran to the nearest Pet Supplies + for the Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR) and the small emergency kit they had ( a small bottle for the milk and a packet of some substance that should get the kitten to poo). Feeding at first was a pleasure. Though he wanted to eat about every 2 hours, I thought it healthy, and read that he is going to eat about 6-8 times a day in his 1st 2 weeks ( 7 to 14 day old). I think he was eating more than what the information said, but that's my fault. By the way, don't take my word on the feeding instructions... The KMR will have its instructions on the side of the package and tell you how much milk is needed for your kittens body weight.
I had found the cutest kitten ever, abandoned under my back porch. The vet estimated him to be 10 days old. Little did I know the horror and chaos that would soon follow. I have done allot of research on cats and kittens now. I have yet to find someone with a case of kitten rage like "Muffin" here. Sure it's a cute little name. It makes you think of cake and cookies, everything that a tiny baby kitten should be. But I learned soon on that this was not that kind of cat. I'll get to that later. But for now I will leave you with this image of him, 10 days old, after his 1st bath, sleeping. |
